The aim of this unit is to develop understanding of some mathematical functions that can be used to model practical situations. Extensive used of the GDC in this topic is encouraged.
related vocabulary:
Function - Relates to a set of inputs to a set of outputs, which each input related to exactly one output.
- usually denoted but a lower case letter (e.g. f or g)
- defined using a formula of the form f(x) = ... - This specifies what the output of the function is when x is the input.
Domain - A set of all possible inputs to a function
- possible to evaluate the function for any element of the domain
- in functions involving fractions, the domains must exclude numbers which would give a denominator of zero
Range - Resulting set of outputs
